FALCON asked:
I am not sure if i have made the right choice. The sony home theater will cost me $400 from Circuit city. I want to buy a theater in box. Onkyo HT-SR800S is also available from circuit city for $429 and $399 from 6thave.com. I need help in making the decision. I am not a home theater expert and have very very basic knowledge. Should i go with one of the 2 above or with any other. Thanks for your responses

my parents just got it..its awsome you should really get it!! but the problems is that i cant go to sleep now!! lol ..I reccomend it.
Hi. I am not a fan of Sony. Their Receivers are not up to the quality of other brands. The same with their speakers . If it was me i would go for the Onkyo as they usually give better results. But it is really up to you. They will both sound different and it is that difference that should tell you which one sounds the best to you.So listen to both and let your ears be the judge. If you can’t listen to them to make a decision then i would go for the Onkyo.
Cheers, Falcon.
Personally, I would choose neither, but if I had to decide by brand, I would choose Onkyo. I’ve worked with both brands for Home Theater setups and have found Onkyo to be better overall. However, the receiver they will give you in a “Theater-in-a-box” system is going to be more of an entry level model. I would recommend the Onkyo TX-SR674 or TX-SR605 and get yourself some decent speakers. HDMI upconversion on these receivers is a real convenience!
