try the yamaha rxv-2600 it is a really neat piece it had scaling built in to where your 480i will be converted to 480p through a single hdmi cable running audio and video if your using any digital audio input such as a toslink or digital coax pending on your equipment, as well as your 480p and 720p upconvert to 1080i, it has plenty of power all around and is fully customizable with a great on screen menu. goto yamaha.com and check it out

Bose is arguably some of the worst crap to ever grace the home theatre market. Yamaha continues to make a good product, so if you had a good experience with your last receiver, you may want to stick with that brand. Denon makes quality components as well. Harmon Kardon are nice, but the company has been bought out in recent years and is not the company they once were, the same can be said for Marantz. If you are willing to push the $2000 envelope, B&K is about as nice as you could get in that range.

I hope the Bose posters were kidding because Bose sound is crap, especially compared to what you have already. That is a large amount to spend on the receiver. At the minimum, look into the Harman Kardon AVR635, which has a room eq function that is excellent. Very musical and warm sound. You should also look at the Denon 2807 and 4306, which also include sophisticated equalization functions which will adjust the sound to fit your room acoustics. At that budget you can also look into separates. Check out Outlaw Audio and the Emotiva brands for separate pre-amp + amp combinations that will be a huge step up in quality (and price)

Yamaha is not a bad receiver, but if you really want an upgrade, go with Denon or Onkyo. Both are excellent. Denon may have a slight technology edge, but Onkyo is easier to set up & use. I have a Denon 3805 & love it.

(Bose would be a step down from what you have now, IMHO)

Aside from killer US brands (with killer prices) in my experience if you are concerned with components and materials, then Cyrus won't disappoint you

I have a Harmon Kardon AVR-630 it has better reproduction than many, it also has very low distortion. it also has many in-out options. I'm very happy with it
