Hey guys i recently bought a yamaha home theater package. I not really a high end though. But the receiver is alright. So i got a bluray player, and 360, and an HD cable box.
I tried to connect the the HDMI from the Bluray to the reciever, An HDMI from the Cable Box to receiver, and an fiberoptic audio cable from my 360 to the receiver and its component cables to the tv. And from the receiver i have an HDMI from the reciever to the TV.
Though when i turn on the BLURAY player the sound comes from the tv not the Surround sound. My yamaha receiver has 3 HDMI ports(1 out). and 2 optic cable ports.
SO WHY is the sound going to the tv and not the surround sound.

What is the model number of receiver ? Your receiver doesn’t support audio via HDMI ( JUST PASSTHROUGH). You have to connect optical cable from Blu-ray player to receiver to get sound.
If this is a low-end receiver it’s possible it won’t play HDMI audio. Look on the specs and see if it says “HDMI passthrough” or “HDMI switching”. If it says passthrough then it will not process any signal it receives from HDMI. It will only pass it straight out, in this case to the TV. Sorry.
